Xbox Live receives HBO Go, MLB.tv and Comcast Xfinity Apps

Xbox Live’s latest update adds some premium streaming video content from HBO Go, MLB.tv, and Comcast Xfinity. The update, which was announced via Major Nelson’s blog won’t replace cable as users will need a cable subscription to access the features.

Gamers can use their Kinect to control the Xfinity and MLB.tv apps with their voice or hand motions. Kinect can also be used with HBO Go to control the service’s entire catalog with your voice.

Comcast users who are worried about their bandwidth cap will be happy to know that the company has announced that Xfinity on Demand on Xbox will not count against bandwidth caps:

“Since [Xfinity On Demand] is being delivered over our private IP network and not the public Internet, it does not count against a customer’s bandwidth cap. XFINITYTV.com and the XFINITY TV app stream content over the public Internet and count toward the customer’s bandwidth cap,”

Users can now head to Xbox Live to download all three of these premium content apps.

Ban Hammer Falls on 1600+ COD Modern Warfare 3 Cheaters

Infinity Ward just finished their first round of banning for Modern Warfare 3. Over 1,600 players are now banned from the online service due to various reasons.

MW3 Creative Strategist Robert Bowling announced via Twitter that “any attempt to cheat, hack, or glitch in [Modern Warfare 3]will not be tolerated.” When asked about how cheating is validated, Mr. Bowling added that “we verify reports with in-game stats, in-game video recordings, and other data to verify you were cheating.”

However, not all fowl play will result in a permanent ban. Mr. Bowling added, in a very colorful way, that each situation is handled on a case by case basis. “Every ban unique to the level of douchiness of the offense. The greater the douche the greater the length. PermaDouche possible.” So don’t be a “douche” and enjoy the game!

Modern Warfare 3 Release Date Outed

Both Amazon.com and a source close to IGN have listed a November 8, 2011 release date.

Amazon currently has their pre-order system available for the title and lists the release date of November 8, 2011. While a listed release date from Amazon should be taken lightly the release of a poster from IGN serves to silence the naysayers. IGN received a photo from a retailer in Australia that clearly shows the November release date.

Prepare for a full onslaught of information on Modern Warfare 3 at E3 2011 this June.

Activision Sues EA Over Infinity Ward Fallout

EA -- 1

Following the Infinity War debacle earlier this year, Activision has now added mega-publisher EA to their lawsuit against Jason West and Vince Zampella. This latest attempt by Activision is over the publishers supposed attempt at “hijacking” the Call of Duty developer. The lawsuit also claims that the two Infinity Ward founders also attempted to sabotage their sister studio Treyarch.

In true Activision fashion, the publisher is going big and seeking at least $400 million from EA in this lawsuit. According to the lawsuit EA engaged in unfair business practices, messed with contracts, and even went as far as to fly Jason West and Vince Zampella to meet with EA CEO John Riccitello back in August 2009.

While the truthfulness of these claims has not been revealed, I have a hard time believing it all. This lawsuit also once again shows how Activision has no desire to please gamers. Remember when EA used to be the big bad publisher of the video game industry?

Former Heads of Infinity Ward Officially Signed with EA

Former Heads of Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella, have formed Respawn Entertainment. West and Zampella have been in a very public spat with Activision over their departure. The two were ousted for the studio in early March under accusations of insubordination. Respawn Entertainment have just signed their new company to a publishing contract with Electronic Arts. For those of you who dont know, Electronic Arts is the largest competitor to Activision. This is just another chapter in the legal squabble between the former heads and Activision. I would like to say this is surprising but I believe that most saw this coming from a mile away.
