No more Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector’s Editions Before Launch

Mass Effect -- 3

Bioware has confirmed that no more Mass Effect 3 N7 Collector’s Editions will be made before the game’s release in March. The ME 3 N7 Collector’s Edition, which retails for $80, is sold out at many online retailers. The Xbox 360 version of the Collector’s Edition is currently sold out at Amazon.com and the following notice was released.

“We are looking to secure additional allocation from the publisher and will update this page if that occurs. Please note – if you have already pre-ordered this edition – do not cancel as you may not be able to re-order.”

After reading this, disgruntled fans took to the Bioware forum and received this reply from Bioware community coordinator Chris Priestly:

“The items included in the physical edition cannot be made in time for launch. Sorry, it will not happen. This is why, back in November, I started warning people that the CE would run out.”

Priestly went on to say that those who missed out on the retail version of the Collector’s Edition should seek out the digital version.

Carmageddon Countdown Completes; Carmageddon: Reincarnation Announced

Carmageddon

The mysterious countdown clock on the quietly launched www.carmageddon.com website has finally completed. Though the website itself is not functioning, a press release has revealed that the Carmageddon brand has reacquired by the original developers, Stainless Games.

Along with this news, Stainless Games announced they are working on a new game in the series titled Carmageddon: Reincarnation. The title will debut on digital platforms, though none have been specifically named yet. It is currently planned for a 2012 release.

Press release follows:

Stainless Games Begins Development of Carmageddon: Reincarnation

Isle of Wight, UK.  1st June 2011. The Carmageddon brand has been reacquired by the team that developed the original PC titles Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now. Stainless Games today announced that a new title is in early development, called ‘Carmageddon: Reincarnation’.

“Carmageddon has returned to its Indie developer roots, and the time is right to bring the game to a new audience,” said Patrick Buckland, CEO and Stainless co-founder. “Originally an ambitious title that tested the hardware limits of its day, we’re excited that the game will finally get the showcase it deserves on today’s platforms.”

“Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success.” said Neil Barnden, Executive Director and Stainless co-founder.  “All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt.”

“I was in the war!” Patrick added.

Now in the early stages of pre-production development, ‘Carmageddon: Reincarnation’ is slated for release in 2012. Stainless Games is actively seeking a partner with whom to move the project on to full production.

‘Carmageddon: Reincarnation’ is being developed for digital download, for which Stainless Games have built an enviable worldwide reputation, with numerous cross-platform releases and multiple No.1 titles on XBLA.

Mass Effect 2 Going Digital on PS3

Mass Effect 2

BioWare will be jumping to the future and taking advantage of the PS3′s technology next week. BioWare will release the PS3 port of their Sci-Fi epic Mass Effect 2 simultaneously on blu-ray and PSN when it is released on Tuesday January 18, 2011.

The US Playstation Blog made the announcement today, but was unable to provide any pricing info for the digital version of the game. The downloadable version of Mass Effect 2 will follow the blu-ray version by including the “Overlord”, “Lair of the Shadow Broker”, and “Kasumi” DLC. We can expect to see a $60 price on the downloadble version, the same as the blu-ray version. In a perfect world, we will see a $10 or price cut for PSN.
