Robert ‘FourZeroTwo’ Bowling departs from Infinity Ward

The face of Infinity Ward, Robert ‘FourZeroTwo’ Bowling has resigned from the developer and Activision today. Serving as the creative strategist for Call of Duty and lead at Infinity Ward, Bowling announced his resignation via Twitter.

Activision had this to say about his departure:

“We sincerely thank Robert for his many years of service. He’s been a trusted and valued member of the Infinity Ward team. We wish him all the best on his decision to pursue future opportunities.”

Bowling has yet to announce where he will be going next.


 

Shoot Many Robots heads to PC on April 6, features pre-order bonuses

After releasing a couple of weeks agoon Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, developer Demiurge’s 2D run-and-gu platformer Shoot Many Robots is heading to PC. Currently set for release only on Steam, the game will be available on April 6. Ubisoft has also added some Valve-themed pre-order bonuses to sweeten the deal.

Those who purchase the game between now and launch will recieve a set of gear which will allow the main character to become Half-Life‘s Gordon Freeman while some robots will be replaced with Portal 2 turrets. Also included will be a backpack item for Team Fortress 2 which can be equipped by the Pyro and Medic calsses.

The game will cost $10 when released. There will also be a “Buy 3, Get 1 Free” promotion for the game which will surely encourage many to spread the love and pick up a few extra downloads for their friends.


 

Xbox Live receives HBO Go, MLB.tv and Comcast Xfinity Apps

Xbox Live’s latest update adds some premium streaming video content from HBO Go, MLB.tv, and Comcast Xfinity. The update, which was announced via Major Nelson’s blog won’t replace cable as users will need a cable subscription to access the features.

Gamers can use their Kinect to control the Xfinity and MLB.tv apps with their voice or hand motions. Kinect can also be used with HBO Go to control the service’s entire catalog with your voice.

Comcast users who are worried about their bandwidth cap will be happy to know that the company has announced that Xfinity on Demand on Xbox will not count against bandwidth caps:

“Since [Xfinity On Demand] is being delivered over our private IP network and not the public Internet, it does not count against a customer’s bandwidth cap. XFINITYTV.com and the XFINITY TV app stream content over the public Internet and count toward the customer’s bandwidth cap,”

Users can now head to Xbox Live to download all three of these premium content apps.


 

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on iPad will cost $10 or less and support multiplayer

Beamdog has revealed to Kotaku that the iPad version of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will cost $10 or less and support multiplayer. Talking to Kotaku, Beamdog COO Cameron Tofer didn’t confirm a final price for the app but did note that a price ”past ten dollars doesn’t make sense.”

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is set for release on PC and iPad later this year.

Microsoft announces Arcade NEXT promotion featuring Trials Evolution and Minecraft

Microsoft has yet another promotion to hype up the release of new Xbox Live Arcade titles. This time the promotion, titled ”Arcade NEXT” will feature such high profile titles as Trials Evolutions and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. You can see the list of titles and their release dates below:

  • Trials Evolution (1200 MS Points) on April 18
  • Bloodforge (1200 MS Points) on April 25
  • Fable Heroes (800 MS Points) on May 2
  • Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition (1600 MS Points) on May 9

Trials? Fable? Minecraft? XBLA has some heavy hitters on its hands with this latest promotion.


 

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition Coming to iPad Alongside PC this summer

Beamdog has anounced Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will be recieving an iPad release courtesy of developer Overhaul Games. This iPad release will launch alongside the PC release in the summer and will include everything that’s in the PC version including the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. Both versions will also see the inclusion of new story content, extra quests, and new party members.

The iPad version of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will run on the Infinity Engine. No release date has been given for either version of the game.


 

Media Molecule and United Front Games team up for LittleBigPlanet Karting

Today the Playstation Blog revealed that LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule will be teaming up with ModNation Racers developer United Front Games to develop LittleBigPlanet Karting. The game, which is due out later this year exclusively on the Playstation 3, will build on the foundation laid by ModNation Racers.

James Grieve, senior producer at United Front Games, told the Playstation Blog that players should expect a new toolbox specifically tailored to allow for building in LittleBigPlanet Karting‘s world,” along with racing and battle modes with modifiable rule sets.”


 

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy hits the US this summer

Square-Enix has confirmed that the 3DS-exclusive Final Fantasy rhythm game Theatrhythm Final Fantasy will be heading to North America and Europe this summer. Originally released in Japan back in February, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy does what the name implies: combine the worlds of rhythm games and Final Fantasy into one pleasing little package.

When released in February, the game was the first to take advantage of the new Nintendo Network. It remains to be seen if the DLC from the title will make its way to North America and Europe as well.


 

“Crews” from Max Payne 3 carry over to Grand Theft Auto V multiplayer

The multiplayer form title “crews” from Max Payne 3 will carry over to Grand Theft Auto V says Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser. Speaking to IGN, Houser revealed that Grand Theft Auto V will share Max Payne 3‘s crews via Rockstar’s Social Club.

“Multiplayer is an ever-more important part of all our games moving forward,” Houser said. “And by creating crews through Social Club, the crews that you create in Max Payne 3 will be ready and available for you to play in Grand Theft Auto V from day one.”

It will be interesting to see just how this multiplayer crossover will pan out once both games are released.


 

Gamestop sees “modest increase”, reaches “all-time high” sales

For the fiscal year ending January 28, 2012, Gamestop’s global sales reached $9.55 billion. This is a “modest increase” from the same period last year although they mark an “all-time high” for the company. However, this year only saw a $339.9 million dollar gain this year, opposed to their record net profit of $408 million in 2010.

Finally, the company also revealed that digital receipts grew 57 percent during the year, reaching $453 million.

Giant Bomb

Diablo III recieves May 15 release date

Blizzard has announced that their hotly anticipated action-rpg Diablo III finally has a concrete release date. Those eagerly awaiting a trip to Sanctuary can pick up their copy when the game is officially released on May 15.

When released, the game will be available at retailers in the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. It’ll also be available digital-only in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil.

Further localizations of the game will be available on June 7. These localizations will include Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, European Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Russian.


 

Giant Bomb purchased by CBS Interactive

CBS Interactive, the partent of popular gaming site Gamespot has done it again with their acquisition of Giant Bomb. The purchase comes as part of a larger deal that sees Whiskey Media, Giant Bomb’s previous parent company, being purchased by BermanBruan. Most of Whiskey Media’s sites will transition along to BermanBraun while Giant Bomb and Comic Vine move to CBS Interactive.

Jeff Gerstmann has revealed that he will explain why he was fired from the site back in 2007 in a livestream later today (4pm PST, 7pm EST). The livestream will feature Gerstmann alongside Gamespot boss John Davison and will be broadcast live on both Giant Bomb and Gamespot.

As part of the purchase, Giant Bomb will now move to the Gamespot offices.


 

Confirmed layoffs at IGN and 1UP

Sources at VG247 have confirmed that at least four IGN and 1UP staff members have been let go from the company. These staffers include Matt Leone, Jack Devries, Ryan Winterhalter and Thierry “Scooter” Nguyen.

As the day unfolds, we may hear of even more layoffs from IGN and 1UP.


 

Standalone Mass Effect FPS was a thing

Back in 2010, Bioware Montreal was developing what was shaping up to be a standalone, competitive multiplayer first-person-shooter based in the Mass Effect universe. Titled Mass Effect Team Assault, this idea eventually became the third-person co-op multiplayer mode that shipped with Mass Effect 3.

This comes from a new documentary-turned iPad app The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3. According to the documentary,

“To create a standalone multiplayer experience in the Mass Effect universe that would mix the play styles of Unreal Tournament and Battlefield 1943 — and likely be released as a downloadable game.”


 

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition coming this summer

Beamdog has revealed that their Overhaul Games division will be taking the lead on development of Baldur’s Gate: Enahnced Edition. The project sounds like some sort of HD update. A specific release date and platforms are currently unkown, but we do now it will come sometime this summer.

A Beamdog representative has revealed to Joystiq that “This is the Enhanced Edition, it’s not a repackage. We have the original source code and are doing a significant update.”

The team behind the game are also planning “regular announcements every week with more details.”


 

Call of Duty Elite subscribers receiving four more pieces of unnamed Modern Warfare 3 content this year

Activision has announced that four additional pieces of Modern Warfare 3 content will be delivered to Call of Duty Elite subscribers by the end of the year. No specific details were revealed about what the content is, but we do know that it will be provided during the planned Elite content “season”.

As a service, Elite has been faring quite well since its release. Nearly two million users have downloaded the service’s iOS and Android apps with new applications hitting tablets soon. Activision is promising a variety of unspecified updates to Elite’s functionality over the next few months.
