In an effort to be good Samaritans and give back to the community, we at Gaming Survival have a regular giveaway every Wednesday, dubbed the “Hump Day Giveaway.” Not only is it catchy, but it’s completely immature. The contest run from the Wednesday as posted until Monday 12:01PM EST.   This week, we’re giving away one of the best Kinect games out there – The Gunstringer. Also note, this doesn’t come with the code for Fruit Ninja Kinect, but I’m sure you’ll be able to dry those tears somehow. Just use the widget below to enter a chance to win. Video Game Clichés: Wake Up, Something Terrible Is Happening!

Zelda A Link To The Past Logo

One of my favourite RPGs, Golden Sun, starts with our hero Isaac asleep. His mother dashes in with an alarming revelation. A boulder is threatening to destroy their small village, and the magic or psynergy of the Elders is not enough to stop it. The boy is told to leave and seek shelter, and from here an epic quest begins. Helped along, of course, by two villains who saw nothing uncool about viciously attacking a group of children in a rainstorm. The cads. This setup (sans beating up innocent youths in a rainstorm) is one beloved by developers. Link is perhaps the protagonist most affected by this epidemic of narcolepsy. In A Link to the Past, Zelda actually manages to invade his dreams to inform… Read More »

Review: Prototype 2

Prototype 2 -- 1

Traditionally when the mainstream media picks a game to focus on over video game violence, they usually choose the likes of Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty. The most popular titles are put on the chopping block, whether they deserve the harsh criticism or not. For the most part, the criticism is not warranted. When I think of a game to focus on in this scenario, a game like Prototype 2 comes to the forefront. With its brutal violence, constant use of abrasive language, and largely hidden sexual nature, Prototype 2 is not a game for everyone. Whether you feel these characteristics are necessary for artistic expression will unfortunately be a huge judge of whether you enjoy your experience with this game. From the… Read More »

Game of the Week: Gotham City Impostors

Gotham City Impostors Logo

Gotham City Impostors is the madcap fps recently released by Monolith. It arrived on XBLA, PSN and PC in February, and none of these formats knew what in God’s name had hit them. It instantly became one of my favourite games this year, which is a feat indeed for someone whose distaste for the genre borders on actual phobia. Part of this title’s appeal, to myself and many others, is the sheer madness. Impostors doesn’t just have a zany streak, it revels in the weird. There’s the Shredder, a homemade gun firing a relentless barrage of ball bearings. There’s the inflatable boots, offering greater mobility and surprise-attack potential. There’s the bank robber with delusions of grandeur-esque grappling hook. The oddity of the weaponry and gadgets,… Read More »

Hump Day Giveaway #13- Joe Danger: Special Edition (XBLA) with mini standee [Closed]

This week’s sweet-ass giveaway is the much-loved Joe Danger: Special Edition for XBLA. Originally a PS3 exclusive, Joe Danger made it to XBLA 18 months later, but with all the DLC already included, not to mention some other little goodies in tow. Our EIC Craig Hart gave it his seal of approval, so that’s gotta be worth something right?   Along with the game, I’m also tossing in a pretty exclusive piece of Joe Danger… Read More »

Gaming Fashion Disasters: Cammy

Cammy Header

As a British representative of the Street Fighter franchise, you’d expect the ubiquitous tea-drinking sophistication from Cammy. Not so, not so at all. She’s wearing a leotard of some kind. I’m not sure who advised her that this is suitable fighting attire, but she may want to rethink. It’s fairly freeing with all those acrobatic capers she gets up to in the games, granted. At the same time, though, various lady-parts are flying around with abandon, which is distinctly uncool. This could be a technique to distract the mostly-male combatants, or to make her look less intimidating. She’s then underestimated, and nobody sees the sudden pummelling/throttling coming. With the gratuitous posing that accompanies this ensemble, I’m guessing it’s the former. It’s also important to note… Read More »

Game of the Week: Metroid Prime

Metroid Prime Logo

Metroid Prime was the franchise’s first appearance on the Gamecube. It was a completely innovative direction for the series to take, and came as a surprise to many players. At the same time, it remains one of the most acclaimed titles on the system, and was a real triumph for Retro Studios. Samus receives a distress signal from the stricken ship Orpheon. Investigating the area, she finds signs of a catastrophic battle that decimated the crew of Space Pirates. The underbelly of the vessel houses the horrific Parasite Queen, which sets off an explosive chain reaction on defeat that dooms the Orpheon. Fleeing back to her gunship, Samus catches sight of her notorious foe Ridley, who takes flight to the nearby planet Tallon IV. This… Read More »

In an effort to be good Samaritans and give back to the community, we at Gaming Survival will have a regular giveaway every Wednesday, henceforth dubbed “Hump Day Giveaway.” Not only is it catchy, but it’s completely immature in its own way. Entry into the giveaways will usually be simple, like posting something to Twitter, Facebook, etc. The goal is to make it as painless as possible. The contests will always run from the Wednesday as posted until Monday 12:01PM PST. The window is short, but not too short.   I think it’s safe to say most of you couldn’t attend PAX East this year. Don’t fret gamer! We managed to finagle and compile 4 swag bags to give away to you, the loyal reader…. Read More »
