Tons of new Assassin’s Creed III details emerge from hiding

Assassins Creed 3

Continuing on the theme of leaks, Ubisoft has recently been hit with a string of them. First the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 3 had its cover art hit the internet ahead of the company’s official announcement, confirming that the long-standing rumors were true and that the game would be set during the American Revolution.

A batch of screenshots were later leaked, showing off the game’s new protagonist skulking through frost covered woods with a bow and arrow. Others featured the assassin preparing to ambush a small group of redcoats. Yet another shows him handling a tomahawk in the shape of what appears to be the symbol of the assassins.

Today, a countdown timer over at the game’s official site finally hit zero and, after some technical issues were resolved, the site…linked to a new trailer as well as Gameinformer. Joy.

According to GameInformer’s site, a mere tease, the franchise’s fifth title has been in development for three years. Fortunately, more substantial information from the April edition of the magazine comes via Gamingbolt. Players can look forward to a new camera designed to better capture the action, a new version of the Anvil engine, and settings ranging from Boston to New York.

The hero of the new game comes from a mix of Native American and British blood. Ratohnhaké:ton, or Connor, was born into the Mohawk tribe. Like Ezio’s oddly placed allies, Machiavelli and da Vinci, Connor will join forces with George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. No word yet on whether or not players can expect to bring the pain with Thomas Paine.

As for the gameplay, players will be able to dual wield weapons. The stealth and fighting systems have been purportedly redesigned. Seasons will change organically. The economic systems have also been revamped, allowing the player to hunt game in the woods and to sell pelts. Fast travel is another confirmed addition to the game. Finally, the dreaded den defense system from Revelations is being abandoned.

Assassin’s Creed III releases on October 30th, 2012 for the PC, 360, and PS3 and will retail for the standard $59.99. VG247 also reports that a Wii U version is in development. I’ll be waiting for the inevitable announcement that the PC version has been delayed. Check out the brand spanking new trailer below.

New Binary Domain multiplayer trailer released

binary domain

Sega has released a new  multiplayer trailer for their upcoming shooter Binary Domain. The game, which is set for release on February 28 in North America, is developed by Ryu ga Gotoku Studio (quite the mouthful) and published by Sega. You can watch the trailer below.

The trailer shows off some key features of the game’s multiplayer portion. These include balanced teams, city battlefields, and the ability to play “free for all” or “by the rules”. From the trailer the gameplay looks interesting and the environments look pretty awesome. But the look of near-future shooters can be deceiving. Just look at Mindjack.

Binary Domain is set to be released for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

grand-theft-auto-v

Rockstar released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto V and confirms that we are heading back to San Andreas.

San Andreas has changed since we first saw it back in 2004 in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Playstation 2. San Andreas is fictional state comprised of three cities based on real U.S. cities. The cities include Las Venturas (Las Vegas), Los Santos (Los Angeles), and San Fierro (San Francisco).

Rockstar has not confirmed platforms or a release date for GTAV. Hopefully Rockstar will indulge us with more information soon rather than later.

Skullgirls Launching in Early 2012

skullgirls-logo

Autumn Games and Reverge Labs have teamed up to develop Skullgirls, a fast-paced 2D fighting game that puts players in control of fierce female warriors in an extraordinary Dark Deco world. Originally, Skullgirls was slated for release in 2011 but it appears that it will miss its release window. According to the Skullgirls Blog, “the vagaries of digital distribution and the submission process make that impossible at this point, but Skullgirls should be launching early in the first quarter of 2012.” Judging from the recently released trailer, the game looks to be coming along great and will offer a stylistic 2D fighter for XBLA and PSN.

For those who have yet to see Skullgirls in action, check out the trailer below:

Today, D3Publisher, Reverb Publishing and Trendy Entertainment announced that Dungeon Defenders will launch on October 19, 2011. The game is coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC.

“It’s been a long time coming, but the day is finally here to announce when we’ll be unleashing the full console version of Dungeon Defenders upon the masses, and we couldn’t be happier,” said Jeremy Stieglitz, COO and co-founder of Trendy Entertainment. “The console version of Dungeon Defenders has more content, more depth and more challenge than many full retail boxed games, so we can’t wait to get it into players’ hands so they can experience this epic role playing game as it was intended to be played.”

Dungeon Defenders mixes tower defense and action-RPG and features a combination of real-time strategy and fast-paced hack and slash action. Players control one of four distinct classes in an epic bid to fight back an ancient evil. The game features drop-in/drop-out four-player co-op online or off, character customization, lootastic gear drops, tradable pets, tons of game-play modes and gorgeous visuals.
