HAL Laboratories Developing New Kirby Wii Game

Kirby Wii

During Nintendo’s investor meeting in Japan yesterday, Nintendo revealed a new Kirby adventure on the Wii that is being developed by HAL Laboratories. This time Kirby will not be heading to Patch Land, and will instead be going back to the series’ roots.

Nintendo of Japan has released a 35 second trailer which shows that the game will be a 2.5D side-scroller featuring the classic formula of sucking up enemies and absorbing their powers. The trailer shows the use of a giant sword twice. It is possible that the big sword will have something to do with the plot, or is simply just another power.

No other details have been revealed by Nintendo, but we can expect to hear more about this new Kirby Wii adventure in the coming weeks or months.

Kinect and Minecraft Come Together in Newest Hack

kinectminecraft

While there have been some unlikely hacks for Kinect lately (Zelda and Doom come to mind), this newest one involves indie sensation Minecraft.

This work of genius is by Nathan Viniconis. By means unknown (I assume communing with some form of coding spirits), Nathan has figured out how to interpret 3D images taken from Kinect and map them into Minecraft, creating a reasonable facsimile of the original image. It even goes as far as matching available blocks to match the photo’s colors.

If you are super curious about how this was accomplished, his work is chronicled here. He offers step by step instructions about how to get this interesting piece of work running on your machine.
