Since its launch in Japan back in December, the Playstation Vita has received quite a few Fimware updates. Although those have all been minor fixes, the latest update is quite significant. Fimware 1.60, which will be available in Japan before the system launches in North America.
The first new addition is a maps application that will be comparable to that of a maps application on a smartphone. Users can switch between different views, use it as a GPS, and set bookmarks. Also added with this update is video recording which will take advantage of the system’s built in cameras.
OS X users will be happy to know that with this update they too will be able to use the system’s Content Management Assistant, which was previously exclusive to PC. This OS X version will be available starting February 8.
While not necessarily a massive change, this firmware update also flashes a blue light when the system is returning from standby to power.
It is currently unclear whether this update will be available for the launch of the US Playstation Vita.
