Rumor: Xbox 360 Successor to be Six Times More Powerful, Released Fall of 2013

Ah the rumor mill – love it or hate it, it certainly never stops churning. With the current crop of consoles getting long in the tooth, the rumors of successors to the Xbox 360 and PS3 are going to get more and more fervent. Case in point, the latest bits to mull about are regarding Microsoft’s next console.

The latest news from “inside sources” points to the Xbox 360′s follow-up to packing a GPU from AMD’s Radeon 6000 series. Supposedly, it’s close to a Radeon HD 6670 which supports “DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output.” The going rate for the chip is pegged around $79.99. If this rumor is accurate, then MS will certainly be able to drive that cost down significantly by buying bulk and cutting deals with AMD.

Those in the know might recognize that the HD 7000 series is already available for the PC market. Consoles are never bleeding-edge technologically speaking, but expect this console to still deliver amazing visuals. Hell, the guts of the 360 and PS3 are ancient at this point, but they can still pump out impressive visuals.

The rumors state that the next Xbox will be around 6 times more powerful than the Xbox 360 and “will yield 20-percent greater performance” than the Wii U. Developers are supposedly going to start receiving development kits around August of this year, with an official release coming in fall of 2013. If a reveal is shown off at E3, that part seems dead on. There’s almost no chance they’d release this year, effectively killing Halo 4′s release. They really care about that franchise if you couldn’t tell.
